VOGUE FEATURED HIGH FASHION TRADITIONAL CHINESE WEDDING
This bride’s fashion catalog and knowledge runs deep. Outside of Nicole’s time working as an software engineer, she spent her free time at vintage markets and estate sales collecting archival pieces. When it was time to create the vision of their wedding two things took priority: her Chinese heritage and curated fashion looks.
Nicole and Carlo’s wedding nuptials took place at three different venues throughout the Downtown and Chinatown area of Los Angeles during the yearly “Moon Festival Celebration.” Their ceremony took place at FRANKIE – a modern warehouse space which was elevated with unique wild aisle floral arrangements.
It was important for Nicole and her family to have a traditional Chinese banquet to celebrate her Chinese heritage and to honor her paternal grandfather or “Gung, Gung.” Nicole’s family has a long standing history in Chinatown – it was only fitting that they hosted 185 guests at the architecturally stunning Golden Dragon (also the last standing traditional Chinese banquet Hall in Chinatown Los Angeles).
After a 10-course meal, lion dancers paraded the couple with their guests across confetti filled streets to their after party at the cocktail bar, General Lee’s. Established in 1878, General Lee’s has been a staple to Chinatown, and was also where Nicole’s grandfather worked as a chef back when it was a restaurant decades before. Carlo worked with General Lee’s lead bartender and beverage director to create an extensive custom craft cocktail menu for the event!
Nicole single handedly curated three show stopping looks that perfectly expressed her unique style. Inspired by Audrey Hepburn, Nicole walked down the aisle in the Danielle Frankel “Simone” dress with an extended train, a Monvieve veil, Mach & Mach heels and Akoya pearl earrings. For her reception look, she wore a custom Loewe SS 2023 runway dress paired with a vintage Issey Miyake jacket that she sourced herself and Agmes earrings. For her after party look, Nicole danced the night away in the Vivienne Westwood “Nova Cocotte'' gown paired with Miu Miu kitten heels and an antique brooch necklace from Carlo’s grandmother.
